Grass Valley at NAB in 2018
A few years earlier the banner would have been green
A fairly good gage of how important a company or organization is to the media industry is to look at its presence at the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention held in April in Las Vegas. The show's tagline is "Where Content Comes to Life." The NAB show is the largest show for media, entertainment and technology. What those broad areas include are broadcast TV, radio, production, postproduction, news gathering, streaming, cable TV, satellite TV, film restoration, data storage, data management, weather forecasting, industrial TV, FX, CGI, connected media, cybersecurity. The list gets longer as time marches on. In good years the convention can see over 100,000 attendees from around the world.
To quote the hype for next year's NAB convention from the NAB itself:
"The 2023 NAB Show Centennial will be the pinnacle for all in the global broadcast, media and entertainment industry. A portal to next-generation technology. A catalyst for best-in-breed products. A place to experience the power of possibility in people met and products discovered.
In an arc spanning the last century, NAB Show has been influential in evolving our industry. Sound to picture. Analog to digital. Static to immersive. But we've only just begun. The best part comes next. Because you're in it. Together, we'll keep innovating and redefining the future of what's possible."
The Show is housed in the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is comprised of four large halls, containing two and a half million square feet of exhibit space, and sits on 200 acres of land.
In the central exhibit hall at the upcoming 2022 NAB convention, will be the largest exhibitor, in floor space at the convention, Sony (red outline). At one time the Sony NAB both was considered the largest exhibit booth at any convention in the world. Grass Valley is in the same hall (green outline). This hall also has the booths of Panasonic, Canon, several other predominant vendors in the industry. Another fair-sized company from the Grass Valley area, Telestream (blue outline) is across the aisle from Grass Valley. Sony's influence on the Grass Valley saga, Telestream's story, and why the above mentioned banner is no longer green is covered in the book.
